Combining leading-edge medical science with the compassionate healing arts, Madan Kandula, M.D., has established Advanced Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists, S.C. as a visionary practice.
Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, in a family of physicians, Dr. Kandula completed his undergraduate work at Duke University, obtaining a triple major in cultural anthropology, religion, and biological anthropology and anatomy. He received his M.D. degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia. Dr. Kandula's post-graduate medical education began with his surgical internship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and continued with his residency in otolaryngology - head & neck surgery at the University of Oklahoma. It was during his time that Dr. Kandula met his wife-to-be, Gwen, who was completing a fellowship in audiology at the university.
Seeking to be closer to their families, Drs. Madan and Gwen Kandula started their careers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They founded Advanced Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists in 2004 as an independent practice to establish a new benchmark for personalized, responsive, and technologically savvy care.
"We want to set the tone for medical care," Dr. Kandula says. "We innovate and try to push the envelope. We want patients to see ADVENT as the place where they will find the best options for them."
Board-certified in his specialty, Dr. Kandula has pioneered innovations in sinus surgery. He introduced minimally invasive procedures to Wisconsin, and was first to perform balloon sinuplasty and the new FinESS technique. Wisconsin's most experienced surgeon in minimally invasive sinus surgery, Dr. Kandula also trains surgeons from around the world in these techniques.
Dr. Kandula is in demand as a public presenter and news contributor. In addition to offering seminars on sinus treatments, he appears regularly on all of Milwaukee's network TV affiliates, and has been quoted in "Forbes," "Real Simple," and "Self," among others. Recently, he was selected as one of "America's Top Physicians."
One of the first Doctors of Audiology in Wisconsin, Dr. Gwen Kandula provides the most cutting-edge hearing care in the state at Advanced Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists, S.C.
Born and raised in Freedom, Wisconsin, Dr. Kandula received her Masters of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of hearing disorders. She then participated in a post-graduate audiology fellowship at the University of Oklahoma, where she met her husband-to-be, Madan. Following her fellowship, Dr. Kandula received her Masters of Business Administration degree. She then pursued further studies in audiology, graduating with a Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Florida in 2003.

Dr. Kandula complements her knowledge of world-class hearing aids with a deep understanding of the personal and family impact of hearing loss. "People are so amazed to hear what they've been missing, whether it's laughter, the sound of birds singing, or conversation with friends," she says. "Today's hearing aids are so sophisticated that we can fine-tune them to each individual's precise needs."
In recognition of her stature within the profession, Dr. Kandula was recently invited to participate in an international symposium on the state-of-the-art hearing aid technologies in Denmark. Dr. Kandula also appears regularly on the local NBC and Fox TV affiliates, and has been featured in "MD News" and "Exclusively Yours."
Ashley Hertel adds a new dimension to patient care at ADVENT as the practice's first physician assistant. A graduate of Marquette University, where she also attained her undergraduate degree, Ashley pursued an accelerated program to receive her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies. While at Marquette she completed clinical preceptorships covering family medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, women's health and emergency medicine, among others.
As a physician assistant, Ashley is qualified to do many of the things a physician does, such as diagnosing medical conditions, prescribing medications and ordering tests. She extends the practice of Dr. Madan Kandula in multiple ways, including welcoming new patients, providing ongoing care to existing patients, offering pre- and post-op care, and seeing patients on an urgent care basis.
The leading-edge care of ADVENT and the priority of customer service attracted Ashley to ADVENT. "Patients feel that they matter here and that their health and well-being are our number one priority," she says. "It's rewarding to be part of a team that incorporates the latest advances in technology into patient care, assuring that patients receive the best possible options for improving their health."
Prior to ADVENT, Ashley was practicing in Women's Health. A native to Eastern Wisconsin, Ashley was born and raised in Sheboygan. She has lived in Milwaukee for the past six years, and finds the lakefront of Milwaukee a desirable place to pursue her interests in photography and outdoor activities. |
